Healthcare

As a beneficiary of VA medical benefits, I understand the barriers Iowans face when seeking medical care.  Wait times, area availability, and medical costs are issues that all Iowans face.  Iowans deserve equitable and timely access to healthcare.

  • Access to Specialty Care

Rural areas in Iowa struggle to meet the pediatric and other specialty needs of Iowans.  Providing funding for smaller area hospitals will help meet the needs of Iowans.  Increasing state contributions for Medicaid and Medicare will also help Iowans receive the healthcare they need.

  • Access to Mental Health Services

Mental health resources, such as specialty care in Iowa, are not allocated to create access for all Iowans.  Rural Iowans are being left behind.  State investment can incentivize providers to deliver care to these far-flung communities and breathe new life into Iowa's rural areas.

  • Substance Abuse

Alcohol and drug use in Iowa contributes to substantial legal and mental health issues.  Iowa needs to increase educational materials on the misuse of substances and increase the number of rehabilitation centers to lower the recidivism rate.

  • Aging Population Needs

Iowa has an aging population.  Due to medical advancements, more Iowans are living longer, which is fantastic, but creates a new need for affordable specialty care.  Our current systems are ill-suited to meet these needs and require an increase in qualified professionals and facilities.
